I am a Christina fan. But let’s admit a lot of these scenarios are set up to feature her voice and she was chosen to duet because of her bold sound balancing a more tender or storytelling artist. It’s stylistic differences and you can love both artists equally and enjoy them equally. That is when it is a really successful mix.

Beyonce has vocal power and what's really unique, she maintains this while doing energetic dance routines. A lot of the truly great singers just sing--they don't dance and sing at the same time. You never see e.g. Whitney, or Mariah dancing while singing. Beyonce is quite unique in that she can sing great while dancing. She can do both at the same time.

I DO consider it out-singing in most cases because, in my mind, duets (any group singing effort, for that matter) should make the result greater than the sum of its parts. That means harmonizing and meshing styles, not each person pulling to their strengths only🤷🏻‍♀️It’s all subjective, though.

The only vocalist I've ever heard manage to cover this song in a credible way is Denise Pearson of the 80s band 5 Star.

You truly hear the very strong influence of Mariah with Christina's vocals. I feel like she isn't mentioned these days on the net as others. I believe in giving everybody their flowers but still find her to be one of the better ones that I actually feel in the midst if the riffing and running. Some of her counterparts don't touch me as much emotionally (which is what singing is majorly about) tho they slay with the techniques.

as time passes i like this era much less than her current. The vocals are more ambitious no doubt! But it very much sounds like she is pushing her voice to the extreme in this era and there is not really any technical aspect to her approach.
